When the First Mexican Empire looses some of its southern states, Simón Bolívar sees his chance at uniting Latin America. He asks Costa Rica to join them, which, after some hesitation, they do.

Venezuela and Ecuador later break off as they did in OTL, but this time, the southern state of Cauca also wants to. After a short civil war, they gain their independence.

After this, the Grenadine Confederation becomes more Central American as opposed to South American, and it even moves its capital to Panama City.
